4th Rotary Iftar Dinner 2024
The 4th Rotary Iftar dinner was held in collaboration with the Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) on April 5th, 2024. After a hiatus we were able to assemble a dynamic group of people who were committed to helping their fellow human being in a personal or community capacity.
Against the backdrop of Angliss Restaurant, a venue dedicated to training future chefs and hospitality professionals, the evening commenced with a soul-stirring violin performance, setting the tone for an enriching experience. Andrew Crisp and Ameera Kater from Emergency Management Victoria guided the proceedings as masters of ceremony.
The centerpiece of the event was a thought-provoking panel discussion on the theme of “giving,” featuring Associate Professor Zuleyha Keskin from the Centre for Islamic Studies and Civilisation at Charles Sturt University, and Michael Lapina of the Rotary Club. Addressing fundamental questions about the merits of giving from both a faith and institutional perspective, the dialogue delved into personal reflections on the significance of altruism. Panelists shared anecdotes of overcoming challenges in their philanthropic endeavors, emphasising the profound fulfillment derived from acts of generosity.
As the evening drew to a close, Ahmet Keskin, Executive Director of AIS, delivered a vote of thanks, underscoring the importance of collaborative efforts in fostering a culture of giving. With its blend of cultural exchange, intellectual discourse, and culinary delights, the Rotary Iftar dinner exemplified the transformative potential of community partnerships in promoting social cohesion and collective well-being.
