Rotarians and Muslims find common ground during iftar dinner
The 2015 Rotary Club Iftar Dinner took place at the AIS office on Thursday; 2 July. Organised by the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne-Sunrise and the Australian Intercultural Society (AIS); the event was attended by about 80 guests.
The MC for the evening was Supt Charlie Allen from Victoria Police. Welcome remarks were given by George Mackey; president of the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne-Sunrise; and Ahmet Keskin; executive director of AIS. Mustafa Kadioglu; a religion and values teacher at Sirius College; gave the call to prayer (adhan) and recited several verses about fasting from the Quran.
After dinner; Azmeena Hussain; an associate at the Maurice Blackburn Law Firm; offered her perspective on the Muslim holy month of Ramadan; and Rotary District Governor Julie Mason discussed her experiences with Rotary Club.
Daniel Mulino MP; Parliamentary Secretary for Treasury and Finance; offered the vote of thanks to conclude the evening.
