Inaugural Vicsport Community Iftar Dinner
”Three months ago; we didn’t even know what an iftar dinner was. Now we’re hosting one thanks to the AIS!””
Mark McAllion; CEO of Vicsport
The Australian Intercultural Society ended Ramadhan 2016 program with the inaugural Vicsport Community Iftar Dinner; in partnership with Vicsport and proudly supported by Cricket Australia and the AFL.
Around half of the room had attended an iftar for the very first time; some of them only heard about the word quite recently. It was a great opportunity to engage with the Sporting community; who play an important role is promoting inclusiveness; mateship and teamwork; amongst other things. We are hoping this relationship will be sustained so we have more people from the Muslim community participate in sport and produce role models; not only for the Muslim community but for all of Australia. Angela Pippos was a brilliant MC. and facilitated the discussion panel with Fawad Ahmed (Australian cricketer); Ahmed Saad (Australian footballer) and Madeleine Hogan (Paralympian athlete).
A huge thanks to Mark McAllion & his team for their tireless efforts in making tonight a reality; also to Sam Almaliki; Nick Hatzoglou & Ali Fahour. Thank you also to Islamic Museum of Australia for hosting the event and providing a tour for our guests.
