He will provide an account of what Gallipoli meant for the Ottomans and the role it played in establishing the modern republic of Turkey. In the first week of December 2015 AIS will have the privilege of hosting world renowned Professor John Esposito; Professor of International Affairs and Islamic Studies from Georgetown University in Washington D.C. This event is supported by the Australian Catholic University.
October Turkey Study Tour
AIS will embark on its annual intercultural study tour ”Timeless Cities” to Turkey on the 9- 24 October 2015. Turkey with its incredible history and thousands of years of culture delivers historical; touristic and geographically fascinating locations whilst they presenting the opportunity to meet and socialise with the locals and enjoy the delicious foods and culture. Establishment of the Fethullah Gulen Chair at Deakin University
On the announcement that the Chair would be named in his honor; Fethullah Gulen said the partnership to establish the chair at Deakin University is a significant initiative that will assist “in developing the foundations of true dialogue where people of different traditions and beliefs get the opportunity to know one another and work together towards the ideal of living in peace together” . The endowed Chair reflects the growing strategic partnership between Deakin University; the Australian Intercultural Society and the Selimiye Foundation. Further details
This year’s Victorian State Parliament Iftar Dinner took place in Sofitel Hotel’s Latrobe Ballroom on Monday; 22 June 2015. Organised by the Australian Intercultural Society (AIS); the event was attended by 230 guests; including about 30 MPs and 20 representatives from the Melbourne Consular Corps. Continued
Deakin University; in collaboration with AIS and the Deakin University Student Islamic Society; hosted its fourth Iftar dinner at the University’s City Centre on 14 July 2014. Former Victorian Governor Prof David de Kretser featured as keynote speaker. Continued
The Australian Intercultural Society organised a luncheon for about 80 guests on 7 April 2015; featuring Victorian Ombudsman Deborah Glass OBE. The speech was titled; “Seeking fairness for marginalised members of the community” wherein Deborah Glass outlined her plans as State Ombudsman. Contuined
The Australian Catholic University (ACU) Iftar Dinner was held at Melbourne St Patrick’s Campus on 7 July. Organised by ACU and AIS; the event was attended by over 100 guests who welcomed the opening of the multi-faith room. Continued
