AIS and La Trobe 7th Annual Ramadan Iftar
Australian Intercultural Society (AIS) in collaboration with La Trobe in their unwavering commitment to intercultural dialogue hosted its seventh Iftar dinner at John Scott Meeting house; La Trobe Bundoora Campus on Thursday July 16th 2015.
The evening’s master of ceremonies was Liz Stinson Executive Director of La Trobe International. Dr Bekim Hasani Imam from Carlton Mosque gave the call to prayer and recited several verses from the Quran; and a welcome speech was presented by Pro Vice- Chancellor of La Trobe University Professor Betty Leask who spoke of the importance of global citizenship.
Guest speaker Victor Preton Senior Advisor from Oppeus International congratulated La Trobe University and the AIS for their sustained commitment to holding annual Iftar dinners dedicated to increased understanding of Islamic ceremonial traditions and to build partnerships and friendships across the La Trobe; Melbourne and Victorian community and expressed that by gathering together to break the fast with prayer and companionship; it is demonstrating a commitment to a spiritual and collaborative leadership.
The evening concluded with audience members having the opportunity to share their reflections on the evening’s program followed by a vote of thanks from Mr Ahmet Keskin Executive Director of AIS and exchange of gifts.
